Sabotage Times, that cool website, have started broadcasting their own football reviews shows via Google Plus. It’s because Match Of The Day is so boring these days. Basically, it’s a bunch of fans banging on about the match online straight after a big game. Always finny, sometimes insightful. I’ve appeared on a couple, including this recent one after the Manchester derby.

The other week I was honoured to commentate on a truly historic and unique football match in the Suffolk town of Bungay. Unique because it was the first game in the world in which the two teams, all the players, the match officials and the even the physios and mascot all shared the surname Bungay. Obviously, it was easy-peasy from a commentary point of view, which was lucky because I had never actually commentated on a game before. Unless you count Subbuteo. It was the brainchild of Shaun Cole from Bungay Town FC and ad exec Bil Bungay from the agency Beattie McGuinness Bungay, for whom I do a bit of consultancy work from time to time. Anyway, it was a cracking day, all in aid of the Beattie Foundation, a lovely charity helping society’s most vulnerable out of scrapes (http://www.beattiefoundation.com/). Electric chemistry

I continue to appear on Sky Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes and Charlotte Hawkins every Wednesday morning, reviewing the morning papers. This week, I was joined on the sofa by self proclaimed First Woman of Football, Nancy Del Ollio. She was great fun, so much so that I invited her to join me on the Talksport show. My first book – Get Smashed: The Story Of The Men Who Wrote the Ads That Changed Our Lives, which was published in 2007 – is being adapted into an hour long doc for Sky Atlantic. Last week, it was announced in TV industry mag Broadcast (above). I’m making it with Ridley Scott Associates and my brother Caspar is the executive producer which is brilliant. It’s going to be great. We’ve just got back from France where we were interviewing Peter Mayle, the fella who wrote A Year In Provence but, before that, was a big shot ad exec. W’ve got loads of other fascinating interviews lined up, including one with Ridley Scott about his career in the ad game. I am very excited about the whole thing and will keep you posted on further details right here on this site.
